Overview

DriftX Racing is the kind of game that makes you want to stay up until 3 AM chasing one more perfect lap. With its neon-soaked aesthetic, deep vehicle customisation system, and a career mode that genuinely surprises, it stands as one of the most compelling racing games to arrive on Australian shores in years.

The game takes clear inspiration from the street racing culture of the late 2000s and wraps it in a thoroughly modern package. Tracks wind through stylised versions of urban environments — think rain-slicked city streets, elevated highway spirals, and industrial districts bathed in purple and cyan light. It is visually spectacular, and the art direction is consistently excellent.

Handling & Physics

DriftX occupies a comfortable middle ground between arcade and simulation. The handling model is accessible enough for newcomers but has enough depth to reward experienced players who take the time to master weight transfer and throttle control. Drifting — as the name implies — is the game's centrepiece mechanic, and it feels genuinely satisfying to execute a long, controlled slide through a sweeping corner.

The 80-strong vehicle roster covers everything from compact hot hatches to exotic supercars, and each vehicle class handles distinctly. The tuning system allows for meaningful adjustments to suspension, tyre compound, and gear ratios, giving players genuine control over how their car behaves on track.

Career Mode

The career mode is more substantial than we expected. Spanning 60+ events across six fictional city districts, it tells a loose story about an underground racing circuit that gradually attracts the attention of a corporate racing league. The narrative is thin but serviceable, and the voice acting is better than the genre average.

Event variety is commendable — circuit races, drift competitions, time trials, and elimination events keep the pacing varied throughout. Unlocking new districts by completing district championships provides a satisfying sense of progression.

Verdict

DriftX Racing is a gorgeous, entertaining racing game that earns its place in any enthusiast's library. Its handling model is a joy, the customisation depth is impressive, and the neon aesthetic is executed with genuine artistry. Multiplayer could use more content at launch, and the online matchmaking occasionally struggles to find balanced lobbies during off-peak Australian hours, but these are minor complaints in the context of an otherwise excellent package.
